adx

adx is an open source, portable, lightweight, customizable, free, XML-based and small web-based address book software written in JavaScript/XSL and designed to support comprehensive contact details, including user identifiers, instant messengers, and profiles for popular social networks.

Features at a glance

Key features include support for the Twitter, Flickr, Skype, Delicious, studiVZ, LinkedIn, and Facebook social networking services, support for the XFN and hCard microformats, offline and online usage functionality, geo mapping support, as well as contact search and tagging support.

Additionally, the application offers birthday reminder functionality, support for running on a local folder, support for managing contacts, including web accounts, and support for quickly searching contacts using the URL address bar of your web browser.

Please note that the main emphasis of adx is on contact viewing, which means that you won’t be able to edit them. For editing contacts, you must use an external text editor application that is installed on your computer.

Getting started with adx

To install and use adx, you will have to first download the latest version from Softoware or via its official website, where it is distributed as a single ZIP archive. Save the file on your computer, unzip it, open the extracted folder, and open the addressbook.xml file in a modern web browser.

Then, you must click on a entry to view details for the selected contact. While most entries in contact details are clickable, you can add contacts by editing the addressbook.xml file in any HTML or text editor.

Supported web browsers and operating systems

The application has been tested with all modern web browsers, including Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, Safari, and Opera. It runs well on Linux, Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X operating systems. Is is fully compatible with both 32-bit and 64-bit instruction set architectures.

• added simple boundary checks for year, month and day in birthdays
• added dynamic tag 'adx:Birthday' which is applied to each contact the birthday is near
• improved visibility of selected tag: solid tag border (Known issue in Firefox: not working as change cssRule via selectorText not supported)
• improved web site accessibility by adding labels and autofocus attribute

• This version provides enhanced international support (UTF-8 character set) in the address book file and increased support for only partially-known birth dates (e.g., year only, month and date only).

• settings variable 'photo_show_default' defines if photos are shown or hidden
