Mosh is a completely free and open source command-line software, a Linux/UNIX shell or a remote terminal program created from the ground up as an alternative for SSH (Secure Shell). It runs on various POSIX platforms, including GNU/Linux, BSD, Solaris, and Mac OS X. An application for the Android mobile operating system is also available for download.

Supports uninterrupted connectivity

Mosh (mobile shell) is a responsive and robust software that supports uninterrupted connectivity (Cellular or Wi-Fi), smart local echo, as well as line editing of user’s keystrokes. The program can be used from the command-line interface and has been designed as a drop-in replacement for the SSH (Secure Shell) protocol.

Lets users change their IP on the go

The software supports the CTRL+C keyboard combination to stop processes, and allows you to change your IP address on the go. It also supports long-distance links, it does not listen on network ports to authenticate the user, doesn’t run in the background, as a daemon, and helps you get rid of the network lag.

Getting started with Mosh

To install the Mosh application on your GNU/Linux distribution, you must first download the latest release from its official website or from Softoware, save the archive somewhere on your personal computer, and unpack it using your favorite archive manager utility. Open a Terminal app and go to the location where you’ve extracted the archive file (e.g. cd /home/softoware/mosh-1.2.4).

Then, run the ‘./configure && make’ command to configure and compile the program, followed by the ‘sudo make install’ command to install it system wide. After installation, you must run the ‘mosh --help’ command to view the program’s command-line options and usage message, so you can learn how to use it.
