HELIOS EtherShare OPI is a server-based image replacement solution. It is designed to shift very CPU-intensive image processing tasks from desktops to servers. The benefit for users is that there is no waiting time for placing and printing documents containing OPI low-res images. Another benefit is that the server can produce output many times faster than any desktop DTP application. This keeps all devices busy to produce faster output.

What is new in this release:

  • 64-bit large file support
  • ICC-rendering intent settings via EtherShare Admin (for rendering an image file from one color space to another)
  • Application clipping path (EtherShare Admin)
  • Additional channel support (EtherShare Admin)
  • OPI file changed event notifications
  • OPI Printing to Windows printers (via SMB/CIFS)
  • Custom Color Tinting for in-RIP separation (with QuarkXPress)
  • Optimized image conversion tools
  • Script Server: automate tasks via hot folder Perl/shell scripts (no polling)
  • Compressions: ZIP, JPEG for TIFF images
  • Layout batch image conversion features
  • "HELIOS OPI Tune Up" extension for QuarkXPress 5 (Mac/Windows)
  • Windows "touch.exe" utility
  • Macintosh EtherShare Admin, Tagger, Touch; native for Mac OS X and 9.x

    Requirements:

  • Mac OS X 10.2 or Mac OS X Server 10.2
  • EtherShare 3.1
  • PCShare 3.1 or newer required for Windows clients
  • Macintosh, Windows, or UNIX workstation to place and print OPI layout images to the HELIOS spooler
  • Any non-OPI-compatible software which can place and print EPS files
  • OPI-compatible applications like XPress, PageMaker, Freehand, InDesign, Ragtime, etc.
  • PDF HandShake is optional to support PDFs for conversion and OPI
  • PrintPreview is optional for print jobs
