ConvertAll is a cross-platform and open source graphical software written in the Python programming language around the Qt toolkit and designed to allow users to easily convert between several units, from inches per decade, from meter to pounds, as well as from cubic to nautical miles.

Combine units any way you want

Users will be able to type the base units for conversion or select them from a list, using either a full name or an abbreviation. The software also allows you to easily combine units using the "/" and "*" operators, as well as the "^" operator.

Supports over 400 units

ConvertAll supports conversion of units with non-linear scales, such as temperature, basic mathematical expressions, as well as over 400 units. The program works on both GNU/Linux and Microsoft Windows operating systems.

Installing ConvertAll

Installing ConvertAll is the easiest of tasks, as all you have to do is to find the pre-built binary package in the main software repositories of your GNU/Linux distribution, using the built-in package manager app, and install it with a single mouse click.

It is also possible to install the software using its freely distributed source tarball, by downloading it from Softoware, saving it somewhere on your computer, extracting its contents, opening the Terminal app and running the ‘sudo python setup.py install’ command.

Getting started with ConvertAll

After installation, open the application from the main menu of your desktop environment. Users will be prompted by a ‘Tip of the day’ dialog, from where they can learn how to use some of the program’s functionality.

To convert units, simply select the from unit and the to unit. Yes, it’s that simple! However, please keep in mind that some units are incompatible with others. Also, don’t forget to add the number of units you want to convert.

What is new in this release:

  • ConvertAll has been ported from Python 2 to Python 3.
  • This release also adds an option to load the most-recently-used unit at startup, and adds an introductory tip dialog box which explains combined units.
  • There were also several new units added.

What is new in version 0.5.2:

  • Added the microliter volume unit, the galileo acceleration unit and the stremma land area unit. Also fixed a problem handling "unitless" portions of units to avoid falsely reporting incompatibility between some units when using language translations.

What is new in version 0.5.0:

  • The precedence of multiplication and division operators are now equal. Parenthesis can be used to group units in the denominator. A recent unit menu has been added. French and German translations are now available. Several new units have been added. A bug stopping command line use without X11 present has been fixed.

What is new in version 0.4.3:

  • A critical bug that caused ConvertAll to not run with the latest version of PyQt was fixed.
  • Preparations were made for language translation and several new units were added.

Requirements:

  • Python
  • Qt
  • PyQt
