Sarg

Sarg (Squid Analysis Report Generator) is a completely free, multiplatform and open source web-based application implemented in C and designed from the offset to be used for generating Squid analysis reports.

In other words, with this small and intuitive tool, you will be able to monitor your users’ activity on the Internet, to view the websites visited during their sessions. Reports can be automatically generated from the interface.

Sarg can easily and quickly generate HTML reports that includes detailed information about users, including their IP addresses, the entire web history, as well as how many bytes were used and how much time they've spent.

Getting started with Sarg

To install and use the Sarg on your GNU/Linux operating system, you will have to download the latest source archive from Softoware, save it on your Home directory, unpack it, open a Terminal app and navigate to the location of the extracted archive files (e.g. cd /home/softoware/sarg-2.3.9).

Run the ‘./configure && make’ command to configure and compile the program. Then, run the ‘make install’ command as root or the ‘sudo make install’ command as a privileged user to install it system wide.

Runs on GNU/Linux and FreeBSD

At the moment, Sarg has been successfully tested on the GNU/Linux and FreeBSD operating systems. It is has also been successfully tested on computers supporting either of the 32-bit or 64-bit instruction set architectures.

Various command-line options are available at your fingertips, which can be viewed at a glance by running the ‘sarg --help’ command in a terminal emulator app. Among these, we can mention the ability to create reports only for a hostname or IP address, to exclude connected hosts from the report, to resolve IP addresses using RDNS (reverse DNS resolution), and to process messages.
