Translate Toolkit is an open source, freely distributed and cross-platform command-line software project implemented in Python and designed from the ground up as a collection of console utilities aimed at assisting translators and localization engineers.

Can be used to access all your localizations

Being designed to be used for working with XLIFF and Gettext PO file formats, the Translate Toolkit software can be easily used to access all your localizations. It includes tools that help you to check, merge, extract and validate your localizations.

Many converters are also provided in Translate Toolkit, allowing translators to convert OpenOffice.org SDF, Mozilla .dtd and .properties, CSV (Comma Separated Value), Qt .ts, plain text, HTML, TMX (Translation Memory Exchange), and much more.

Among other key features, we can mention crowdsource localisation, translation statistics, translation file manipulation, desktop localisation, translation quality assurance, as well as plugins for several machine translation and translation memory providers.

Getting started with Translate Toolkit

Installing the Translate Toolkit software on your GNU/Linux computer is quite easy using the Pip (python-pip) utility (e.g. pip install translate-toolkit). Alternatively, it is also possible to install the application from the source package by running the ‘sudo python setup.py install’ command.

Various options are available to users when interacting with the program via a terminal emulator. These can be viewed at a glance for each command included in the package, by adding the ‘--help’ option to the respective commands (e.g. oo2po --help or oo2xliff --help or csv2po --help or html2po --help).

Supported on Linux, Mac and Windows

The software is cross-platform, which means that it has been engineered to run on all GNU/Linux distributions, as well as on the Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows operating systems. Both 32-bit and 64-bit installations of the aforementioned OSes are supported at this time.
