TurnKey Joomla 3 Live CD is a special edition of the TurnKey Linux operating system, specifically designed to provide users with a software appliance for deploying dedicated servers with the 3 branch of the Joomla! web application.

Joomla! is an open source, web-based and award-winning CMS (Content Management System) software that will help anyone to build websites and other powerful online applications. The appliance comes with all of the upstream Joomla! configurations, which are installed in /var/www/joomla.

Key features include support for SSL connections, the phpMyAdmin administrative front-end for managing MySQL databases, a Postfix mail transfer agent for sending email messages to users, as well as various Webmin modules for configuring PHP, Postfix, MySQL and Apache.

When using this appliance, users should keep in mind that the phpMyAdmin software uses SSL and listens on port 12322, the Postifx mail server is bound to localhost, the default username for the Webmin, MySQL, phpMyAdmin and SSH components is root, and the default Joomla username is admin.

The appliance can be downloaded from the dedicated section (see above) as two Live CD ISO images, one for each of the supported hardware platforms (64-bit and 32-bit). These can be written to USB flash drives or CD discs, and used for installing of testing the operating systems.

In addition to the Live CDs, the appliance can be downloaded as virtual machine images for the OpenStack, Xen, OpenVZ, OVF and OpenNode virtualization technologies. Only the 64-bit architecture is supported.

As mentioned, users can easily install the distribution on any 64-bit or 32-bit computer using the Live CDs. The text-mode installation process takes a few minutes and requires users to only choose a partitioning scheme and where to install the boot loader.

After installation, it is a must to enter new passwords for the root (system administrator) and MySQL 'root' accounts, as well as a valid email address and password for the Joomla! 'admin' account. Also, don't forget to write down the IP addresses and ports of the SSH, SFTP. Web Shell, Webmin and phpMyAdmin services.
