jSecure Authentication is the sister project of wSecure Authentication, a plugin implementing the same login method but for the WordPress platform.
As with the WordPress version, jSecure can grant access to users based on a secret key entered in the URL, or redirect them to the homepage or a custom URL if the secret code is not provided.
The default login URL will be in the form of:
http://yourwebsite.com/administrator?SECRETCODE
A feature not present in the WordPress version of the plugin is the possibility to add a special page asking for the secret key (before the actual Joomla login page), if you can't remember complex URLs,
This is the standard behavior of the lite (free) jSecure Authentication version. This is good enough to protect any site, but there's also a commercial version of the plugin, with a few extra features for more needy administrators:
- block access to plugin settings page for other admins (via password)
- block other admins from accessing various configuration pages for other plugins and components
- manage and ban vulnerable IP addresses
- record logins into a log
- view a graph of all bad and good login attempts
- manage files and folders permissions
- meta tag controller
- session purging tool and many other more
Installation:
Go to the Joomla admin section.
Select "Extensions" -> "Install/Uninstall/Extensions Manager".
Upload the package's ZIP archive file and press "Upload & Install".
What is new in this release:
- Auto Ban IP Feature. Blacklist vulnerable IP addresses automatically.
- Manage IP's. With this feature you can simply add/remove Blacklisted IP's from "View Log".
Requirements:
- Joomla 1.5 or higher
