SALI (SURFsara Automatic Linux Installation) is an open source and widely used automatic installation software that supports LISA, GPU, RenderCluster and Central Archive systems.

SALI can be used to install Linux operating systems on multiple machines at once. It includes support for various protocols, as well as GRUB2 support.

SALI's main focus is to contain all the necessary kernel modules and software utilities in kernel/initrd, use a monolithic installation script for UNIX-like runlevel setups, in order to avoid kernel panics, support more installation protocols, such as HTTP, FTP, or BitTorrent.

What is new in this release:

  • Fixed a aria2 rpc bug, since a certain version the tellStatus function expect a gid instead of a index number. Changed this function to use tellActive as we only download 1 image.

What is new in version 1.6.2:

  • Rewrote /init script as a lot has changed with udev since version 166
  • Added some options in the kernel config to make it work with udev 182
  • Replaced module-init-tools with kmod as module-init-tools is deprecated. lsmod/rmmod/insmod/modprobe are now symlinks for /bin/kmod
  • Dropped support for ReiserFS, kernel modules and reiserfsprogs have been remove from SALI
  • Dropped support for PPC64 architecture as we are unable to test SALI in ppc64
  • Added kmod version 13
  • Updated kernel to 3.8.8
  • Updated software packages:
  • aria2 to 1.15.1
  • busybox to 1.21.0
  • curl to 7.30.0
  • e2fsporgs to 1.42.7
  • kexec to 2.0.4
  • openssh 6.2p1
  • openssl 1.0.01e
  • udev to 182
  • usbutils to 006
  • xfsprogs to 3.1.10
  • xmlrpc to 1.25.23
