MyPatients is an open source, platform-independent and free software project implemented in Basic, using the powerful MySQL database and the popular LibreOffice Base application, and designed from the ground up to act as a patient record database.

The project uses a Greek translation of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10) database for its coding. However, it can be easily ported to the English language, but only if an English version of ICD-10 is available.

Getting started with MyPatients

It is not actually an application or program, as it’s an OTT file that must be opened with the Base component of the LibreOffice or Apache OpenOffice office applications. Additionally, you must have the MySQL database installed and configured in your system.

To use it, just download the latest version from Softoware or the official website, extract its contents using your favorite archive manager, open the folder that contains the extracted archive files and double-click the MyPatients.ott, which should open in one of the aforementioned office suites.

Detailed usage instructions are provided to users at a glance in the README.pdf file inside the main archive, but only in the Greek language.

Supported operating systems

This is a true cross-platform project that works with any operating system where the Apache OpenOffice/LibreOffice Base and MySQL products are supported, including Linux, FreeBSD, Solaris, Microsoft Widnows and Mac OS X. It has been successfully tested on computers supporting either of the 32-bit and 64-bit instruction set architectures.

Under the hood and availability

Taking a look under the hood of MyPatients, we can notice that it has been written entirely in the Basic programming language and that is makes use of the LibreOffice/Apache OpenOffice Base database creation component, as well as the MySQL database server to store records of patients in a medical facility.

What is new in this release:

  • Some bugs which didn't exist before have emerged with the new versions of OpenOffice and/or LibreOffice and MySQL, so the code has been adapted.

What is new in version 4.0.1:

  • Code made obsolete by OpenOffice.org 3.3 has been removed

What is new in version 4.0:

  • This release brings major changes in the way the program connects to MySQL Server.
  • It uses an SDBC Native driver that makes the program a lot faster.
  • Other changes are the use of a UTF-8 character set in the database and the inclusion of a drugs program in the MyPatients program (the SDBC Driver can read all the schemas of the database server with one connection).
  • Minor bug fixes also took place.
  • The 4.0 version is tested on Ubuntu Linux, Windows XP, and Windows 7.

What is new in version 2.3:

  • New patients categories were added (thus requiring a database schema upgrade).
  • A new GNU/Linux shell script was added for program installation and/or database schema upgrading.
  • Some minor documentation enhancements were made.
  • Some lab tests were added.

What is new in version 2.2.3:

  • This version has a few bugfixes.
  • The most important addition is compatibility with the upcoming version 3.0 of OpenOffice.org, something that version 2.2.2 lacked.
  • This version is also backwards compatible with OOo 2.4.x versions.

Requirements:

  • MySQL Community Edition
  • LibreOffice
