Duplicate Zapper 4+

…there is always apprehension with this type of automation, especially with a personal photo collection. I’d suggest investing the time in a review of what the tool shows you it is going to delete. So far I believe it is doing a good job. The tool is slow but for this kind of processing that is to be expected.

While the graphical interface is excellent and well-thought-out, I felt that the application did not perform as expected. This of course could simply be my experience as I do not know of the experience others have had.
My task was to sort my hard drive of 270 GB, most of which were images and remove all the duplicates. In many cases, I had located 3, 4,or even 7 duplicates. My desired outcome was to use this app to find these duplicates and at my request, reduce all of them to one, throwing out anything extraneous. Unfortunately, the application only located the files, albeit, in an simple format, but in most cases, I was forced to go through them item-by-item (yes the entire 270 GB) to ensure that the appropriate files were selected…. 1 day later, I’m done. Perhaps a revision on the algorithm is in order. Great idea and introductory function! But we need some better functionality on this one. I would have paid slightly more ($5?) for an app that worked to save me time and effort.

Allowed me to easily see the location of the duplicates. After a short while, I trusted this to use identical hierarchy to the duplicated source locations, so I was able to easily check the 'bottom box' on all duplicates. Once done, hit the ZAP button and it's done. sure, on a remotely used laptop it 'only' saved 150MB, but I'm going to run it on the bigger iMac tonight to shed Gigs of space. Nice tool - thanks Intego!
