Swell Foop (formerly Same GNOME) is an open source puzzle game, specifically designed to be used under the GNOME desktop environment, where players must clear the screen by removing groups of shaped and colored tiles, in as few moves as possible.

How to play Swell Foop

Players should keep in mind that similar tiles, which are adjacent to each other, will be removed as a group, and remaining ones will collapse to fill in the gaps, forming new groups. It only possible to clear groups of two or more tiles, as single objects cannot be removed in this game.

By default, the game starts with a small window that contains 30 colored tiles. Your main goal is to clear the board (if possible). At the end of a game you'll get a score that will be automatically added to the system-wide scoreboard.

The game has no levels

The game has no levels and you will have to press the reload a.k.a. "Start a new game" button from the titlebar, where you can also view the current score. From the Preferences dialog, you can change the board size, the theme, the number of colors, as well as to enable or disable zealous animation.

Three pre-defined boards are available

There are three pre-defined boards, small, normal and large. While the small one has a 6x5 grid, the normal one offers a 15x10 grid, and the large board features a really challenging 20x15 grid. The maximum number of colors on any board is 4 and the minimum is 2. In addition, you can choose between two themes, with or without shapes.

As mentioned, the game integrates well with the GNOME desktop environment, giving users quick access to settings, scores, and documentation, as well as to start a new game directly from the program's entry in the GNOME Panel.

Bottom line

All in all, Swell Foop is a really addictive and fun game for the GNOME desktop. It can be easily installed as a standalone program in any open source desktop environment, directly from the default software channels of many GNU/Linux distributions.
