Net.Belote is a freely distributed and multiplatform graphical software that provides a digital version of Belote, a 32-card trick-taking game played in France, but designed to be played by up to four players on a local area network (LAN) or over the Internet.
The game uses a standard deck of playing cards with all 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 cards removed, resulting in a total of 32 cards. Players will sit opposite to each other and form two teams. It follows the official rules of the Belote card game.
Getting started with Net.Belote
Unfortunately, the game is available for download only as a native installer for 32-bit (x86) installations of Ubuntu, Debian or any derivative. This means that if you run a 64-bit flavor of one of the aforementioned distributions, or any other GNU/Linux operating system that does not uses the DEB package management system, you won’t be able to install the game.
Assuming the you still have a 32-bit installation of an Ubuntu/Debian-based OS, download the installer from the download section above, save the file on your desktop and double-click it. The Ubuntu Software Center app will open, allowing you to install Net.Belote.
After installation, you can launch the game from the main menu of your desktop environment. The game will open and you’ll be able to start a new session with three of your best friends, or at least three people who want to play a Belote game with you.
Supported operating system and languages
The game is translated into English, Italian, German, Spanish, French, and Dutch. It supports the GNU/Linux and Microsoft Windows computer operating systems, as well as the Android and iOS mobile OSes. At the moment, the game is not supported on the Mac OS X operating system.
