chessboard.js simplifies the process of drawing out a chess board on a Web page, along with adding and properly placing chess pieces inside it.

The library can distinguish between chess' starting positions and in-game movements, utilizing the international Forsyth-Edwards Notation (FEN).

Multiple chess boards can be embedded on the same page, ideal for showing the evolution of a game, one movement after the other.

Besides static boards, chessboard.js also supports draggable pieces, being ideal for powering a browser-based chess game.

When using this mode, the library can also allow only chess legal moves, and even highlight the possible squares where a piece can be moved.

chessboard.js also comes with an AI engine to let users play versus the computer, and an animations engine that allows developers to playback various games using JS-based animations.

The game board and pieces are all fully customizable and they can be customized to look whatever you want them to look.

What is new in this release:

  • Added appearSpeed animation config
  • Added onSnapbackEnd event
  • Added onMoveEnd event

Requirements:

  • JavaScript enabled on client side
