In few words, bbPress is a forum plugin for WordPress.
It can be installed just like any other WordPress plugin and it will add a fully-functional forum, integrated with both the WordPress frontend and backend.
Webmasters can easily add and manage forums, topics and replies from the backend, while on the frontend the forum board is automatically added to its own page and specialized user profile pages are created for all people participating in the discussions.
The forum itself can either be skinned via normal WP themes, or using specialized theme packages.
Even if a plugin, bbPress can also be extended via plugins itself, all installable as normal WP plugins with a bbPress requirement.
bbPress has seen quite a rapid and huge adoption rate, mainly because of WordPress' own success and the ease of use and automated integration with existing WP sites and userbases.
bbPress has been used many of times as a support forum, mainly because of its quick registration process and easy to use follow & email notifications system.
Installation:
Unpack and upload it to the /wp-content/plugins/ directory.
Activate the plugin through the 'Plugins' menu in WordPress.
