GamCat is an open source CD, DVD and folder catalogue solution written in Gambas and powered by the sqlite3 database.

It allows users to scan removable devices, partitions and folders and inside archives. It also features advanced search options and search result filtering.

What is new in this release:

  • Version 1.0.8 is a bugfix for 1.0.7 (MP3 tab crash).

What is new in version 1.0.7:

  • Fixes a critical issue with catalog managing interface, and repairs the database which was corrupted due to the error.
  • Added an option to pass the item's name on Catalog tab directly to the Search box.

What is new in version 1.0.6:

  • Added a new set of tools for database managing
  • The export/import of single volumes has been replaced with the new tools
  • The file format .sqg has been dropped in favor of .tar.gz and .sqgx for the protected files
  • New abilities to split the database into two parts, to create new database from selection or to remove multiple volumes at once. It is also possible to import volumes and merge with the existing ones.
  • The Search tool's input text box has been replaced with a combobox which remembers the search history of a session.
  • Fixed a lot of errors, the biggest was a very old one, which did corrupt the calculation of volume's size. This version contains a script which restores the correct values at first startup.

What is new in version 1.0.5:

  • The version 1.0.5 is not compatible with versions prior to 1.0.2. If you use older versions, please do a step-by-step upgrade (installing one after another.)

What is new in version 1.0.4:

  • The MP3 playback has been moved from gb.sdl.sound to gb.media library, thus now the GamCat uses gstreamer as backend for music playback. Hopefully that solved the long standing issue with RPM based distributions.
  • The MP3 player's timeline slider can be used for jumping inside a song
  • The files found on HDD can be opened in default application or in the containing folder
  • Added Volume and Path as sorting option at search
  • Fixed SQL issue with PowerQuery
  • Many improvements in GUI and bug fixes.

What is new in version 1.0.3:

  • Added possibility to lock the database and program with password
  • Moved the library usage from mp3info to mediainfo
  • Added option to save database with or without password protection using zip and unzip
  • Added option to include timestamp on video's thumbnails
  • Added option to create montage for a video's thumbnails during "Copy the thumbnails" operation.
  • Added option to remember the last database file used
  • Added option to use any image thumbnails as volume's icon
  • Added a line corresponding to album containing the specific song in Songbook
  • Added option to find the songs with missing lyrics in current songlist
  • Some bugfixes and UI improvements
  • GamCat doesn't use mp3info anymore. It has been completely replaced by mediainfo library.
  • The earlier saved .sqg files are not compatible with the new version. It is due to move from .tar.gz format for this version to .zip, because of the new feature of passwords. They can be manually converted by extracting them, and compressing to .zip archives, and renaming to .sqg extension.

What is new in version 1.0.2:

  • Added option to cancel scanning
  • Added option to scan .cab, .7z and .lzh archives
  • Added option to set volume's custom icons
  • Added a powerful statistic tool which can:
  • compare two volumes
  • make deep analysis of a volume
  • check the scanned HDD folders for changes
  • Many bugs have been fixed.

What is new in version 1.0:

  • This is a complete redesign. The database structure has ben changed, so the first-run is also a transition process which can take a while. E.G for 170 volumes it took me around 10 minutes.
  • GamCat has now a clean code, with clean database construction, so it became much faster. It is 99.99% compatible with earlier releases. Rare losses can occur only with some thumbnails, and during the file copy process. This is because the previous versions weren't correctly designed.
  • File copy for Virtual Compilation is fixed after nearly two years of bugs.
  • The manuals are now included into the packages. Some features, especially the MP3 playback may not work on all platforms. The packages are created on Kubuntu 11.10.
  • As a new feature, you can scan a FTP server's /public_home folder too.
  • WhereIsIt import is stable and tested.
  • CdCat import uses the relatively stable version 1.2
  • ADC import replaced with Gwhere.
  • Practically everything is new. You can even add skins to GamCat on the Settings tab.

What is new in version 0.0.56:

  • Fixed tray icon behavior: now it changes the song's title upon change in playlist.
  • Disabled doubled addition of new MP3 songs to the database if the data is the same
  • Fixed 'updatedb' which didn't work. Now it works with kdesu or gksu.
  • Some visual improvements.
  • Fixed sorted by time added in Search tab.
