eXtplorer was created to manage and browse files and folders in remote locations. It can also work with local servers as well, but using it locally would be... silly.
eXtplorer can be used by developers that got tired of using FTP clients, or by persons that don't have access to a FTP client momentarily.
It can also be placed on a Web server and left there in case a developer might forget or misplace his FTP credentials. When that happens, just access the eXtplorer interface and you can manage your files and folders until FTP access is regained.
Since it's also very easy to install and works on a low FTP level, eXtplorer can also be used to skip various restrictions imposed by CMSs.
At the same time, developers can very easily integrate it inside other CMSs, forums or blogging engines to provide low-level access to their site's file and folder structure.

Download and unzip the eXtplorer archive.
