Using a caching systems for websites where content is served based on various access levels is not recommended because most caching system cannot mimic user roles when compiling the static HTML version of a page, so webmasters usually end up serving the non-logged in version of a page to logged in users.

This is true for Drupal sites also, since not that many caching modules for Drupal support this feature. Except this one of course.

The "Authenticated User Page Caching" or just simply Authcache works by scanning the user roles a page needs to be visible in and creating a separate cached HTML version of the page, for each available user role, each one with the appropriate content.

Once a user tries to view the page, based on his permissions level, the appropriate cached version is served.

If the admin knows he's the only one managing the site, or there are user groups with few members inside them, then he can optionally disable caching for these user roles to avoid wasting caching resources on pages that get rarely served and displayed.
