Riak is written in Lisp and simplifies development by allowing developers the ability to quickly prototype, test, and deploy database-enabled applications.
Because it's a NoSQL database, don't expect any relational tables, but the classic key/value model that powers all other similar NoSQL systems.
Since it launched, it spread pretty quickly, being a good alternative to systems like Cassandra, Hadoop, CouchDB or MongoDB.
