Aqua Data Studio

Aqua Data Studio is a free application that provides a database administration and query utility, allowing developers to easily and quickly build, edit and execute SQL scripts. It also allows you to visually modify and browse database structures. The project can be used with all major relational databases.

The software is well known for offering support for a wide range of databases, including the popular MySQL, SQLite, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Apache Cassandra, Apache Hive, Apache Derby, Oracle, as well as Microsoft SQL Server. Generic JDBC and ODBC relational databases are supported too.

In addition, the Amazon Redshift, DB2 iSeries, DB2 LUW, DB2 z/OS, Excel, Greenplum, Informix, Netezza, ParAccel Analytic Platform, SQL Database (Azure), Sybase Anywhere, Sybase ASE, Sybase IQ, Teradata Database, Teradata Aster Database, Vertica, and VoltDB databases are also supported.

Supported operating systems and availability

Aqua Data Studio is a cross-platform software that supports all the mainstream computer operating systems, including Linux, Solaris, Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows. On GNU/Linux, it is available for download as pre-built binary packages supporting all distributions, optimized for 64-bit (x86_64) and 32-bit (x86) instruction set architectures.

What is new in version 14.0.0:

• For our Aqua Data Studio 14.0 release, we've added native support for three NoSQL databases, MongoDB, Apache Hive and Apache Cassandra and for Microsoft's cloud-based database, SQL Database (Azure). We've also introduced MongoShell, a command line shell for MongoDB which places an interactive javascript mongo shell directly in Aqua Data Studio. Our Git support is vastly improved with the inclusion of a full Git Client that offers complete support for most Git operations in an easy-to-use UI. What is new in version 11.0:

• This version adds support for the ParAccel Analytic Database, SQL Server 2012, SQL Log Capture Tool, SSH Browser for ProcFS on Unix machines, and many other enhancements to the ER Modeler and the application in general.

• This version added a secure shell (SSH) environment, Perforce and Git version control support, autosave workspaces, shortcut toolbar enhancements, a multithreaded UI, an integrated compression tool and PDF viewer, import and export tool performance enhancements and throttling, OS file MIME type integration, and Excel 2007 support.

What is new in version 9.0:

• New features include a script development IDE, including a JavaScript editor and debugger for writing scripts to automate the functionality of the application using the new Open APIs, which are composed of 20 API packages ranging from archiving and charting to version control.
• Full native support was added for the Netezza Data Warehousing database.

What is new in version 8.0.0:

• Version 8.0 of Aqua Data Studio now includes improved memory optimization methods than previous versions. One of these techniques is a memory compression method for optimizing resultsets which includes redundant data such as numeric data. Querying for large results in data warehousing environments with large quantities of numeric data will yield dramatic memory reductions. Long term use of Aqua Data Studio in these environments will keep memory usage low and in turn keep performance of the application high. The optimizations are most apparent in the Query Analyzer, Query Builder, Saving Results and Exporting of data.
• Below are simple examples of a single query on two different types of result sets. One is of redundant numeric and text data, and the other is non-redundant data. The memory optimizations depend on the datasets, but these examples show some relative numbers which can be used to compare optimizations on different datasets.
• Version 8.0 uses less memory than its predecessors on queries with large resultsets of "redundant" data in the Grid results. Older versions require 220% | 455% more memory.
• Version 8.0 uses less memory than its predecessors on queries with large resultsets of "non-redundant" data in the Grid results. Older versions require 12% | 64% more memory.
• Version 8.0 uses less memory than its predecessors on queries with large resultsets of "redundant" data in the Text and Grid results. Older versions require 24% | 97% more memory.
• Version 8.0 uses less memory than its predecessors on queries with large resultsets of "non-redundant" data in the Text and Grid results. Older versions require 17% | 20% more memory.
