SoftMaker Office is an office suite comprised of TextMaker, a powerful word processor, PlanMaker, a spreadsheet app, and Presentations, a presentation software.
SoftMaker Office 2012 is available for Linux, Windows, Windows Mobile, Windows CE and Android. The suite offers 100% file compatibility between all supported OSes!
Installation:
To install SoftMaker Office, first switch to the directory below which you want to install it, for example:
cd ~ to install below your home directory
cd /opt to install below /opt
cd /usr/local to install below /usr/local
Note: You need administrator rights (root) to install SoftMaker Office beyond your home directory.
Then, unpack SoftMaker Office as follows:
Extract the files with: tar xzvf softmaker-office-2012-669.tgz
Finally, start TextMaker or PlanMaker by typing:
cd officetrial
./textmaker
./planmaker
What is new in this release:
- Reads and writes DOCX files (Word 2007) seamlessly, even those with password protection.
- Imports XLSX files (Excel 2007) with highest fidelity, including password-protected ones.
- PlanMaker offers presentation-quality charts.
- Flexible sidebar in SoftMaker Presentations for common formatting tasks.
- Comes with a license for 3 PCs (home and business) in the box.
Limitations:
- Trial versions let you evaluate SoftMaker Office for 30 days.
- Export to Word and Excel formats is disabled.
