iTop (also known as IT Operations Portal) is an open source and full-featured ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) that helps you to better manage a complex IT environment and manage your customers.

Runs on top of a supported web server

Being a web-based application, iTop runs on top of a supported web server software, such as Apache or nginx (see the official documentation for supported web servers), running on top of a Linux kernel-based operating system. It is independent of a computer platform, so it can be deployed to either 32-bit or 64-bit machines.

Getting started with iTop

To install iTop on your web server, you must first download the latest release from Softoware, save the archive somewhere on your computer, unzip it, open a FTP client application (e.g. gFTP or FileZilla), and copy the content of the ‘web’ directory from the outputted directory to the root of your web server, or in a folder.

Verify if all the scripts have the appropriate owner, especially if PHP runs in safe mode. You should also check to see if all files and folders have the correct access rights, especially the ‘conf’, ‘data’, ‘env-production’ and ‘log’ subdirectories, which are need for the installation.

As a final step, open a web browser and point to the location where you’ve copied the iTop files, which can be either the root of your web server or a directory. Follow the instructions displayed on the screen to complete the installation.
