Bitnami phpBB Module is a cross-platform and freely distributed module that can be used on top of a Bitnami LAMP installation, specially designed for the phpBB software. It is available on GNU/Linux, Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X operating systems, distributed as native installers for the mainstream hardware platforms.
What is phpBB?
phpBB is an open source web-based forum application that features a powerful permission systems, a customizable template and language system, private messaging, support for multiple databases, and search functions. The Bitnami phpBB Module product includes only the phpBB software, without its runtime dependencies.
Installing Bitnami phpBB Module
As mentioned, the phpBB module reviewed here is distributed as native installers for all GNU/Linux operating systems, supporting both 32-bit and 64-bit instruction set architectures. To install it on top of your existing LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP) server, simply download the package that corresponds to your computer’s hardware architecture, run it and follow the on-screen instructions.
Run phpBB on the cloud or virtualize it
Thanks to Bitnami, users are now able to run their own phpBB stack server on the cloud by using a pre-built cloud image for Windows Azure or Amazon EC2 cloud hosting providers, or with their hosting platform.
Virtualize phpBB or use it as a Docket container
In addition to installing phpBB on top of your LAMP installation or run it on the cloud, it is possible to use it on a virtual machine, thanks to Bitnami’s pre-built virtual machine images based on the latest LTS (Long Term Support) release of Ubuntu and designed to support Oracle VirtualBox and VMware ESX/ESXi virtualization software. A Docker container will be provided on the project’s site as well.
