Bitnami Mahara Module is a completely free, easy-to-use and cross-platform graphical installer that will help you effortlessly install the Mahara web-based application on top of an existing Bitnami LAMP, WAMP or MAMP Stack, without having to deal with its runtime dependencies.
What is Mahara?
Mahara is a platform-independent, freely distributed and open source web-based software that will act as an e-portfolio system which uses a flexible display framework and features a social networking system, a weblog, a resume builder, and other attractive functionality.
Installing Bitnami Mahara Module
To install the Bitnami Mahara Module on top of your LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP) Stack, you must first download the package that corresponds to your computer’s architecture (supported hardware platforms include 32 and 64-bit).
Save the package somewhere on your computer (desktop or Home directory), make it executable (right click on it, go to Properties, click on the Permissions tab and check the “Allow executing file as program” option), ouble click on it and follow the on-screen instructions.
Run Mahara in the cloud or virtualize it
Users will also be able to run the Mahara software in the cloud, using either the pre-built cloud images offered by Bitnami for the Amazon EC2, Windows Azure and Google Cloud cloud hosting providers, or its own cloud hosting servers.
Additionally, Mahara can be virtualized on the VMware ESX/ESXi and Oracle VirtualBox virtualization software, thanks to Bitnami’s virtual appliance based on the Ubuntu Linux operating system.
