Bitnami Liferay Stack is a multiplatform and free software project created to help spread the adoption of the Liferay web-based application on personal computers running any GNU/Linux distribution, as well as the Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X operating systems.
What is Liferay?
Liferay is an open source and freely distributed web-based applicaton, a portal framework that has been in development since 2000. It offers a responsive design, the ability to preview content, support for mobile devices, content targeting, integrated social collaboration, enterprise system integration, workflow designer, document sync, as well as support for multiple sites.
Installing Bitnami Liferay Stack
Bitnami aims to make it easier than ever to discover, download and install open source software such as document and content management systems, wikis and blogging software. The Bitnami stacks are developed using the latest BitRock technologies. To install Liferay on your desktop computer or laptop, simply download the package that corresponds to your computer’s hardware architecture (32-bit or 64-bit), run it and follow the instructions displayed on the screen.
Run Liferay in the cloud
Thanks to Bitnami, users are now able to run their own Liferay Stack server in the cloud with their hosting platform or by using a pre-built cloud image for Windows Azure or Amazon EC2 cloud hosting providers.
Virtualize Liferay or use the Docker container
In addition to deploy Liferay on the cloud or install it on your personal computer, it is also possible to virtualize it, thanks to Bitnami’s virtual appliance for VMware ESX, ESXi and VirtualBox virtualization software, based on the Ubuntu Linux distribution. A Liferay Docker container will be available on the project’s page.
The Bitnami Liferay Module
Sadly, Bitnami does not offer a Bitnami Liferay Module, which could help users to install Liferay on top of a Bitnami LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP) Stack, Bitnami WAMP (Windows, Apache, MySQL and PHP) Stack or Bitnami MAMP (Mac, Apache, MySQL and PHP) Stack, without having to deal with its runtime dependencies.
