Bitnami eXo Platform Stack is a multi-platform and freely distributed software project that greatly simplifies the installation and hosting of the eXo Platform application, as well as of its runtime dependencies, on desktop computers and laptops. It is distributed as native installers, virtual machine images, cloud images and a Docker container.
What is eXo Platform?
eXo Platform is an open source, platform-independent and free web-based application that has been designed to act as some sort of full-featured, enterprise-ready Intranet software, which combines calendaring, document and content management with social networking.
Key features include activity streams, web content management, Wikis, documents, calendars, rich profiles, discussion forums, user dashboards, collaborative FAQ, polls, as well as mobile apps.
Installing Bitnami eXo Platform Stack
The eXo Platform stack offered by Bitnami is distributed mainly as native installers, which are supported on the Linux, Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows platforms, and built using the BitRock InstallBuilder tool. Both 32-bit and 64-bit hardware platforms are supported at the moment.
To install eXo Platform on your personal computer with Bitnami eXo Platform Stack, you will have to first download the package that corresponds to your PC’s arch, run it and follow the instructions displayed on the screen.
Host eXo Platform in the cloud
The eXo Platform application can also be hosted in the cloud, as Bitnami provides users with pre-build cloud images that are fully compatible with the Windows Azure or Amazon EC2 cloud hosting providers.
eXo Platform virtual appliances and Docker container
In addition to installing eXo Platform on personal computer or run it in the cloud, it is possible to virtualize it, thanks to Bitnami’s virtual appliance based on the Ubuntu Linux distribution and designed for the VMware ESX, ESXi and VirtualBox virtualization software. A eXo Platform Docker container will also be distributed on the project’s website.
