Bitnami CrushFTP Module is multi-platform and freely distributed graphical installer that enables users to install the CrushFTP web-based application on top of an existing Bitnami LAMP, WAMP or MAMP stack, without having to deal with CrushFTP’s runtime dependencies.
What is CrushFTP?
CrushFTP is a free, platform-independent and open source web-based application that has been created from the ground up to server as a reliable file transfer solution that runs on any computer operating system, including GNU/Linux, BSD, Solaris, Mac OS X, and Microsoft Windows, via a modern web browser.
Installing Bitnami CrushFTP Module
To install the CrushFTP software on your GNU/Linux personal computer where an existing Bitnami LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP) Stack is installed, you must download the pre-built binary package that corresponds to your computer’s CPU architecture, 32 or 64-bit.
Save the package on a location of your choice and make it executable by right clicking on it, going to the Properties option, accessing the Permissions tab, and checking the “Allow executing file as program” option.
Then, double click the .run file and follow the instructions provided on the screen, which will basically ask you to choose the path to the Bitnami LAMP Stack installation. The Bitnami CrushFTP Module product also works on Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows OSes.
Virtualize CrushFTP or run in the cloud
In addition to installing CrushFTP on your personal computer, you can virtualize it using Bitnami’s virtual appliance based on the Ubuntu Linux LTS platform. Furthermore, you can run CrushFTP in the cloud using Bitnami’s pre-built cloud images for the Amazon EC2, Google Cloud, and Windows Azure cloud hosting providers.
The Bitnami CrushFTP Stack and Docker container
Besides the Bitnami CrushFTP Module product reviewed here, Bitnami also offers a complete, all-in-one installer that enables users to deploy the CrushFTP web-based application and its runtime dependencies (Apache, Java) on personal computers, called Bitnami CrushFTP Stack. A CrushFTP Docker container will also be available on the project’s website.
