BAD (BAckup Daemon) is an open source command-line utility specially designed to run in the background and watch a specific directory and copy the folders and files from it to a designated location.

BAD generates hashes automatically and stores them in a local file for easy and quick integrity checking. It is also capable of logging everything is doing, mostly.

What is new in this release:

  • This version is mainly a lot of bugfixes and major code restructuring.
  • One new feature is the pid file that will disallow two bad processes from runing at once to prevent duplicate logging output and too much resource usage.
  • Logging levels can be set as command line arguments to obtain the desired logging output.
  • A self uninstaller has been added that will delete ~/.bad, the binary, and the manual page.
  • It requires root privileges

Requirements:

  • Linux kernel version 2.6.13 or later
