Trillian

Trillian has finally arrived on the GNU/Linux platform! This is the official Linux client of the well-known and powerful multi-protocol IM (Instant Messaging) software that caused a furor across the Internet.

Supports tabbed chats and message history

Key features include support for tabbed chats, message history, emoticons, themes, built-in spell checker and support for multiple languages. It boasts an easy-to-use and clean graphical user interface that will make your chat session more enjoyable.

It’s secure, respects your privacy

Another interesting feature is the transparent privacy policy, which clearly outlines what Trillian does with your data. It’s a secure application that respects your privacy online. This means that no government monitoring programs will intercept your chats when using Trillian.

It’s interoperable

Trillian is a continuous client that allows users to take their chats with them everywhere. It is also interoperable, supporting XMPP, Google, MSN, ICQ, AIM, Yahoo!, Facebook Chat, and many other Instant Messaging (IM) protocols.

Provides email supports

The application also provides email support via the IMAP and POP3 protocols, as well as native IM mail integration. It is a social software, providing users with integration for popular social networking services like Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare and LinkedIn.

Supports desktop and mobile operating systems

Trillian is a true cross-platform application that supports desktop and mobile operating systems, including GNU/Linux, Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, Android, iOS and BlackBerry. It can also be used directly from within a web browser.

Supports DEB- and RPM-based distributions of Linux

Be aware that this is a commercial application that requires a paid subscription (Trillian Pro account) to work properly. While no source archive is available for download, it officially supports DEB- and RPM-based distributions of Linux, such as Ubuntu, Debian, Linux Mint, CentOS, openSUSE, Fedora or Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Support for Arch Linux is provided on AUR.

• By popular request, we've been spending time improving some of the dependencies Trillian requires and have also made clean Debian and Fedora builds. While we still support Ubuntu extensions, they are now optional instead of required, which should make using Trillian on your favorite Linux distribution much easier! A handful of bugs have been tackled in this build as well, and we've tried to improve Trillian's resilience in the face of many different theme and color configurations.
