Scannerz

The Scannerz package is a set of hard drive, SSD, and system analysis tools designed to help users isolate hardware, system, and performance problems. The package consists of Scannerz, Performance Probe 2, Phoenix, and FSE or FSE-lite. The Scannerz application itself can help identify problems with hard drives, SSDs, interconnecting support circuitry, and logic boards. Performance Probe 2 can help identify software problems, hard drive or SSD performance problems, network bottlenecks, and overactive or memory intensive applications. FSE or FSE-Lite allow the user to identify which applications are making excessive use of the hard drive or SSD, with FSE being configurable. The tool Phoenix can allow a user to perform very basic drive cloning, create an emergency boot drive on an external drive or USB flash drive, and perform a degree of file recovery on a damaged drive.

The Scannerz application itself is a hard drive, SSD, and system test and evaluation tool. Scannerz can identify bad or weak sectors on hard drives and SSDs, identify and test for data corruption occurring between a drive and the logic board, evaluate system and memory faults, determine if excessive drive sleep and head parking events are occurring, and test for problems with I/O cables. Performance Probe can graphically depict drive I/O, which can visually identify drive drop outs and other problems when used in conjunction with Scannerz, or it may be used by itself to identify overactive applications, memory intensive applications, monitor network loading, and with it's load averaging feature, identify applications that are continually bottlenecking the system. Phoenix can be used for creating an emergency boot drive on an external drive or USB flash drive by extracting the core operating system from an existing installation, perform very basic cloning, and help recover data from a damaged drive. FSE and FSE-Lite are file system monitors, with FSE being configurable, and can identify which applications are making excessive use of file systems. Although this package is best known for the scanning, testing, and diagnostics capabilities of the Scannerz application itself, it is targeted at helping users find a host of system problems.
