magic.jar is a freely distributed and open source command-line software written in the Java programming language and designed as a runtime component for the Lua system available on the TinyBrain.de website.

Features at a glance

magic.jar allows users to effortlessly execute, upload and download sandboxed scripts. Furthermore, it lets users to run the sandboxed, mobile Lua snippets that are available on the TinyBrain.de website, on any system.

In addition, magic.jar can display GUIs (Graphical User Interfaces) and do text operations. Being written in Java, this tool can run on any operating system where the Java runtime environment is installed.

Getting started with magic.jar

To use the magic.jar software, you will have to download the latest version from Softoware, save it on a location of your choice, open a terminal emulator, navigate to the location of the file with the “cd” command and run the “java -jar magic.jar” command (both without quotes).

When it opens, you will be immediately notified that the TinyBrain service has been started, and if a new version is available. You can always use the built-in update system to update the software to its latest stable version.

Under the hood and supported OSes

As mentioned, the program is written entirely in the Java programming language, which means that it is a platform-independent application supported on any operating system where the Java Runtime Environment is available, including all GNU/Linux distributions.

The Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows, as well as the Solaris and BSD platforms are also supported. magic.jar has been successfully tested with both 32-bit and 64-bit instruction set architectures.
