Bitnami Cloud Tools for AWS is a freely distributed, easy-to-use and self-contained software project that aims to deliver native installers for all GNU/Linux distributions, as well as for the Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X operating systems, which contain command-line utilities for Amazon Web Services, as well as pre-configured versions of the Java, Ruby, Python and Perl programming languages, and the Node.js JavaScript platform.

What’s in the installer?

The Bitnami Cloud Tools for AWS installers comes with a wide range of command-line tools that will help you get started with Amazon Web Services in minutes. Among these tools, we can mention aws-auto-scaling, aws-cloudformation, aws-beanstalk, aws-cloudwatch, aws-cli, aws-ec2-ami, aws-ec2, aws-elb, aws-rds, aws-iam, aws-sdk-java, aws-sdk-ruby, aws-sdk-nodejs, aws-sns, aws-ses and s3cmd.

Installing Bitnami Cloud Tools for AWS

The installer is built using the BitRock InstallBuilder tool and supports both 32-bit and 64-bit hardware platforms. To install Bitnami Cloud Tools for AWS on your personal computer, you will have to first download the package that corresponds to your PC’s hardware architecture.

Give it executable permissions using the “chmod +x bitnami-cloudtools-aws-x.x-x-linux-installer.run” command (without quotes), where x.x-x is the version number, then double-click the file or invoke it via a terminal emulator.

Getting started with Bitnami’s cloud tools for AWS

Before installing these cloud tools for AWS, make sure that you have a valid Amazon Web Services account, as they will be required after installation. Make sure that the “config/aws-credentials.txt and config/aws-config.txt” file is present and add the AWS Secret Access Key and AWS Access Key ID credentials in it.

Next, you will have to copy the AWS PEM-encoded X.509 certificate to the “config/ec2.crt” location, as well as the AWS Private key file to the “config/ec2.key” location. Last but not least, make sure that the aforementioned files have the 600 permission.
