NetBoot Extras includes NetBoot Extension and NetBoot Disk Unmounter. Both of these extensions can be used with the Mac OS X Server 10.0 and NetBoot 2.
What is new in this release:
NetBoot Extension resolves these issues: If you are NetBooting a first generation iMac it will put up a warning if you do not have the recommended firmware upgrade installed. Some applications do not yield the system to other services often enough. In a NetBooted system this may cause the system to crash. This extension forces applications to yield sufficient time for the rest of the system to function. This extension ensures that all IP connections are terminated at Shutdown so that the machine can be rebooted immediately. The NetBoot Drive Unmounter is an extension you can use to make the local hard disk on a NetBoot client computer unavailable to other users. If you install the extension, the icon of the local hard disk does not appear on the desktop of the client computers so users cannot access files on the disk. The Applications and NetBoot HD volumes provided by the server are the only volumes available on NetBoot client computers. Note: If the computer does not startup from a NetBoot server, the local hard disk appears on the desktop as usual. In addition, if you install the NetBoot Drive Unmounter extension, NetBoot client computers will start up automatically from the NetBoot server. Normally, the first time you start up a Macintosh computer that you want to use as a NetBoot client computer, you need to press and hold the N key when you start up the computer. Next, you need to open the Startup Disk control panel and choose the network as the startup disk. However, if the extension is installed, this is not necessary. Note: The computer will always start up from the NetBoot server unless you reset parameter RAM (PRAM) or choose the local hard disk as the startup disk in the Startup Disk control panel.
