Agilefant is an open source, platform-independent and freely distributed web-based application implemented in JSP/Java/JavaScript and designed from the offset to act as a fast and easy-to-use sprint and release backlog management solution.

Provides long term portfolio and product management functionality

The software is engineered to be as simple as possible, while still offering everything you need from such an application. It provides long term portfolio and product management functionality, as well as compatibility with all mainstream operating systems.

Key features include work breakdown, time tracking, project management, personal workload management, customizable metrics panels, as well as access rights. It has been developed by the Software Process Research Group of the Helsinki University of Technology.

Mobile apps are available for Android and iOS

It also comes with iteration management, daily work and timesheets. Agilefant is also distributed as a commercial edition that includes mobile apps for the powerful Android and iOS (soon) mobile operating systems.

Agilefant is very flexible and can be easily transformed in anything you want. Depending on your needs, it can present itself as a task list, as a hierarchical view that displays information that contributed to your business goals and higher level product, or an one page view that shows the key performance metrics of several projects and teams.

Getting started with Agilefant

Before attempting to install the Agilefant application on your server, you should check to see if all of its runtime dependencies are installed, including the Java Runtime Environment (JRE), Apache Tomcat version 7 or later, as well as MySQL.

Download the latest release of Agilefant from its official website or via Softoware, save the archive on a location of your choice, unpack it, open the extracted folder and rename the agilefant.war file to [Agilefant instance name].war (replace [Agilefant instance name] with the name of your Agilefant instance.

Then, you will have to create a database for the Agilefant instance, as well as to configure the application to connect to the created MySQL database. Read the complete installation guide at https://github.com/Agilefant/agilefant/wiki/Agilefant-installation-guide.
