AGES Live CD is an open source and freely distributed Linux kernel-based operating system designed to provide a live environment that lets users to play retro games, using nothing but free software.
Based on Ubuntu and pyRetro
It is based on the Ubuntu operating system and build around the pyRetro software, which is an interface for the MAME emulator. The distro has been designed to act as an entertainment system that uses very few resources for deploying a Plug & Play open source Linux-based gaming system powered by various emulators.
Distributed as a 32-bit Live CD
The operating system is distributed as a single Live CD ISO image that contains software packages optimized only for the 32-bit (i386) instruction set architecture, but bootable on both 32-bit (x86) and 64-bit (x86_64) computers. While it is designed to be used directly from a bootable media (CD or USB), it can be easily installed on a disk drive.
Boot options
The Live CD boot menu is very special, designed to allow the user to try the operating system with the following monitor settings: 15Khz VGA-1, 15Khz DVI-1, 30Khz CRT/VM, 15Khz VGA-2, 15Khz DVI-2, 15Khz VGA NTSC, 15Khz DVI NTSC, as well as 15Khz VGA PAL.
In addition, the user will be able to change the default language (English), select a diferent keyboard layout and video mode, enable various accessibility options, pass extra parameters to the kernel, as well as to access a help screen with more information about available boot options.
Includes several retro games
Immediately after booting the ISO image from the BIOS of your computer, using either a USB thumb drive or a CD disc, the gaming system will start, allowing you to play some old-school games. The distro includes several retro games, such as Gridlee, Looping, Robby Roto, Star Fire (Set 1), Top Gunner (Exidy) and World Rally (Set 1).
