Addressbook2pine is a utility that allows you to sync your OS X address book with pine's and alpine's addressbook. Simply launch addressbook2pine and it will process all of your contacts in your address book and create a tab delimited file readable by pine/alpine.

The resulting .addressbook file will contain the following values for each field:

Pine OS X Addressbook
Nickname Company, Group, Phone, Birthday, Nickname, First Name, Last Name, First & Last name, blank + optional unique id and optional email id.
Fullname Full name (First, Middle, Last, and Suffix) + optional email id.
Fcc Global fcc path + Contact's Group, Email, or Full Name.
Comment Notes, Company, Group, Url, Phone, or Birthday.
Addresses Email(s) (with optional distribution lists)

Addressbook2pine can also take all contacts in a pine/alpine .addressbook file and import them into OS X Address Book. Each successfully imported contact is then automatically added to a group within OS X Address Book labeled "addressbook2pine" for easy tracking purposes.

What is new in this release:

Addressbook2pine now works with OS X 10.6. It can also successfully run in "pine2addressbook" mode where you can completely import your pine .addressbook files to OS X Address Book..

Preference window added where users can fully customize how content appears in their pine addressbook:

  • use distribution lists: When this setting is set to off, contacts with multiple emails will appear in pine's addressbook as multiple listings, all other information fields will be duplicated.
  • generate nickname ID numbers: this setting will create a unique ID in the nickname field for each contact. This is recommended for versions of pine 4.63 and before to compensate for a bug in pine.
  • use person's name in company cards: this setting when on will affect OS X address book cards that are checked as a company card. It will import the person's name to pine's name field rather than the company's name.
  • the nickname field can now be set to import: [company, group, phone, birthday, first name, last name, first & last name, or none]
  • the comment field can now be set to import: [notes, company, group, url, phone, birthday, all, or none]
  • add email id: With this setting on, contact's email id's (home, work, office, etc) can be set in the nickname, name, or comment field. This works particularly well in conjunction with an address book not using distribution lists. There is also an option to abbreviate the id name to the first character of each label (h, w, o, etc).
  • fcc path & folder: a fcc path can now be set globally for all contacts imported. If a more self-modifying fcc path is desired, then the fcc folder option can be used to add the contact's name, group, or email address after the path.
  • remember ".addressbook" file location: this setting allows addressbook2pine to not prompt you for a location to save pine's addressbook file once a path has been defined.
  • automatically backup OS X address book: When this setting is on, before each use, addressbook2pine will create a complete .abbu backup of your MAC OS X Address Book and save it as a dated name (example: "Address Book - 10/19/05.abbu").

Requirements:
